Giveaway and Link Up

*Check at bottom of post for the giveaway.*

I did finish Clue 3 this week, it literally became my therapy.

Our community lost one our brightest stars this week and the daughter of some of our best friends. To the Flu. There are no words to express our pain at losing this borrowed angel.
Shannon was 17, a Senior, healthy, bright, smart, a talented artist, had college plans in place and walked with faith. She was kind, well loved and was always the person to ask what she could do for someone else. We are so grateful that we had the privilege of knowing you in your short time on the earth. The world will be just a little darker without you here.

Between cooking, running errands for the family and just sitting with them, I did retreat to the studio.
That being said, here is what got me through the hardest times this week. Sitting in the studio and just sewing.

I did not have very much of the greens( because I use them in many quilts) I wanted and so found myself stealing from other projects, charm packs and jelly rolls to get the variety I so craved. Guess I will have to go shopping now, bummer! lol I was determined to make this quilt from only stash and so far so good. I hope Bonnie would be proud.

Here they are all lined up and I am so happy with my choices and is it Friday yet?

Now for the GIVEAWAY. If I get 25 comments on my blog by Thursday when the Linky closes, I will draw a random comment and the winner will receive this.

This is from my personal library. When I asked for Bonnie books, apparently people listened and I have several of some of her books! Nice to know family listens.

Let me know if you are doing Bonnie"s colors or if you strayed as I did.

I also got to "Pay it Forward" this week. On the Quiltville's Open Studio FB page, another quilter was looking for fabric that was no longer available. I knew I had it as I had auditioned it as one of my purples. It did not work for mine but it did for hers and popped it in the mail! ...and in digging for greens came across another piece of it, so in the mail it goes. So glad I could help another quilter!

While you are waiting make sure you check out all the wonderful hysteria for the Grand Illusion Mystery Quilt on Bonnie's page! Right Here.... GIMQ Link Up. Amazing!

As Always,

Deb

  1. So sorry for your loss of your young friend. Hopefully, peace will come soon. Your greens play very well with your other colors. I love scrappy but didn't have enough to "scrap it up" so picked one color for each from my wee stash. Thank you so much for the chance to win a Bonnie book!

  4. So sorry for your loss as I understand as we sit with my brother as he goes through the last stages of colon cancer. I flew out to Saskatchewan to be with him and will eventually return to the GI mystery quilt and it will always remind me of him. I'm using Bonnie's colors

  6. This is the first time I have done one of Bonnie's mysteries. That said, I decided I better stick to her colors for this one. It has been really fun to watch others like yourself that have changed up the colors & I'm really going to enjoy seeing how they come together.

  11. Oh, gosh. I'm so sorry about the young lady's loss. We lost my youngest sister at that age, and it's very difficult to get through. Sewing sure can help, can't it?? Thank you for sharing this fantastic book. It's one that I intend to buy some day in the future when I've cleared my initial UFO list.

  13. It is so true that we turn to quilting to find some solace in times of loss. My heart goes out to Shannon's family and friends. You are in my prayers as I work on my Grand Illusion. My colors are pretty close to original - reds instead of pinks. Thanks for the chance to win Bonnie's book.

  14. Deb! I came across your blog & I love it :) Your quilt is going to be gorgeous (of course)... I'm falling a little behind on the MQ w/ all of my Christmas quilting... but have all of clue 1 done, some of 2 & 3. Following Bonnie's instructions for a first time MQ'er... Can't wait to see what yours looks like. So sorry to hear about your friend. It's never easy when we lose a young person. Will keep you and the family in my prayers!

    1. Thanks Amy! Kinda missing you, we will have to figure something out to exchange or do after the holidays! If it is your 1st Bonnie mystery, don't worry, I think it took me 2 years to get mine done. No kidding, I was lost! Yes, so sad about Shannon, so much ahead of her. Her Mom said to me this morning, one good thought is that she will never have to experience the pain of adulthood. She had just been asked on her first date....

    2. ;( uugghhh to hear that literally brought a tears to my eyes!!! That is one of my greatest fears & probably most parents... to lose a child. All of those "firsts" they won't get to experience w/ her. On top of that, having it happen around the holidays. I know you are a great woman... so if these are your close friends, I have no doubt you will comfort them as much as possible through this difficult time!!! They will be in my thoughts and prayers!!!
