Monday Mystery Link-Up #4

Good Morning,

Did not make stash report yesterday, the last one will be next week. Gotta get those numbers on there as they are quite large.

But for now.....

Part 4 complete. On Friday morning I ran errands including grocery shopping to hunker down for the big storm. It was a flop as far as snow totals but the wind and the cold were right on. Saturday saw the winds pick up and the temps drop rapidly cancelling our plans for the day. Sunday morning brought the temperature way below zero with wind chills of 40 below. 

Good time to sew. These and several other projects completed as well as more renovation work on the kitchen/dining area. DH and I were both busy Saturday and Sunday. 

I am disappointed that I can't get the colors to come out better in the photos. There really is more contrast.

Talked to DD #1 in Boston Sunday evening and she asked if I was taking pics of the reno. I totally forgot to get before photos but will take some today. It will be fun to see the transformation.

Monday Mystery Link-Up #3

These make me nervous. When doing Easy Street, the blocks were simple, easy to accomplish and then BAM.........when the block assembly was announced, the twisting and turning of the 4 patches almost did me in. I had to check it, rip, check it, rip, take a pic, rip, have hubby check, rip and finally got it assembled, correctly. With 389 of them, it may be a long road!

To make this clear, it is not Bonnie's fault or the pattern, IT IS ME. I have a hard time refolding a map also. I buy the laminated, self-folding ones. Yes, I still like maps even though I use my phone for driving directions. I have many things I do well but the orientation of things is sometimes more than I can handle, lol.

All three parts complete, 

I am still loving my colors although never in my life would I have put red and orange together on purpose. Here is my choices again to reassure myself. 

In other news, the kitchen remodel is on track. Dining area is going according to plan with only one bump. The doors to the outside will not be installed until spring. The wall is off from top to bottom by 3/8 inch and will take more framing than we are will to do being exposed to the weather. It happens to be 0 degrees right now. Polar Vortex, go away! Not a big deal as everything else can be done.

Design Wall Momday

I'll have to catch up on the Stash Report next week.

With what you say............En Provence, Bonnie Hunter's 2016 Mystery.

Changing the colors as I only use from stash and I wanted to try this one with limited neutrals.

The neutrals are subtle and the black has a small gray print in it.
Here are my other colors, it will be fun to work with them as it is kinda blah right now!

Design Wall Monday

It is that time of year again and so it means I post on the blog! I sure wish I was better at blogging but the sewing machine usually wins the time allotment!

Not only did I start Bonnie Hunter's 2016 Mystery but I had someone to sew with!

My 13 year old granddaughter, Abigail wanted to stay the weekend and sew. So we did! We had shopped my stash several weeks ago and she had chosen her fabrics and set them aside.

Quarter inch being mastered.

Pressing, so far, so good.

Top Complete! She also has the binding cut and made for me. BTW, she did all her own cutting too!

I did very little on it, I would show her a step and then let her go at it. Watching her plan it  very carefully choosing where she wanted to place each piece almost brought tears to my eyes. This girl will someday make more quilts, I know it in my heart.

I was so impressed with her, she kept at it, only checked her phone once in a while, paid attention and we got to do more talking and sharing than we have in a long time. LOVE that girl!

Her first quilt. that is her on the left, 7 years ago to the day. and she still has the quilt.

.....and I accomplished Clue One of Bonnie's En Provence! 

I usually really go all out on my neutrals but I want them to be the calming effect in my quilt this time. They may seem boring now but it is one of Bonnie's quilts and I know they will sing.

I changed up the colors as I had used purple in several quilts this last year and stash was short. My goal for the Mystery is always to use stash. During the year, when I shop I look for inspiration fabrics and this year found this floral that called my name.

I don't know if the floral will become a border or backing, we shall see. It has given me the chance to use up some greens that I have had "percolating" in the stash for a bit. 

Ready for Clue 2 and the goal is to have this one done by February!

Can it really be 9 months since I looked at this blog??????????? Apparently so. I am going to catch up on my Stash Report because it is substantial. I have been working on reducing stash since that time so I have not been idle at the machine. Lots of finishes! For this report I will just do November.

My Godson applied about 18 months ago for his Eagle Scout and submitted his project. I went searching for fabric, lucked out and found 2 panels but no coordinates. Apparently it is out of print and terribly expensive. After all how hard can it be to match the panels, um yea, VERY! Last month he submitted his paperwork and it was accepted. Guess I better get going on that quilt. I thought I got this! After all I have a sizeable stash, I would just start digging. Found some and started cutting. What I learned: 1. I have a lot of greens and none of them are BS green. 2. If all panels are printed like this, I will never use another one. 3. I finished the top and am grateful I have to do only one.

I am sure he will love it and any "little" puffiness from the panel stretching or whatever it did, I can quilt out. I used the other panel whole and as part of the backing. I'll show it to you when I finish it. His reception will be at a Firehouse on March 5th and we are so excited to go and watch this wonderful young man receive his award.

Have you all heard about Pat Sloan and the "Splendid Sampler". Many Designers and 100 blocks (6 inch). Well here is my first, Hearts Aflutter by Pat Sloan.

I have been collecting batiks for a bit now and have only made one quilt from them and that was made using a jellyroll. This looks like the perfect project for them. I used variegated thread for the buttonhole stitch but did not show up as well as I would have liked.

My how time flies especially when you are being very productive! The cold has made me stay home and get some quilting done. Backings use up some serious yardage so while I am on a kick to get UFO's finished, the numbers will look good.
First up:

A Young woman whom I have know since she was 7 months old just finished a 13 year stint in the Navy. I am grateful for her service and decided she needed a quilt to celebrate that accomplishment. I used the #10 Mystery from the Quilts of Valor page and pieced the back with some "Navy" themed scraps. Quilted with loops and stars.

This is from Pat Sloan's Globetrotter for 2014 Mystery. A vintage back was found at Salvation Army and I just love it! I even fussy cut a few blocks. Quilting is a meander.

A baby quilt using color crayons and a coloring book page for the center. Stitch in the Ditch used for quilting. She just turned one and I hope she drags it around and wears it out! I will make her another one then!

I am a Tester for Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks and the last few issues I have made the blocks in all the same colorway in order to turn them into a quilt. These are all from Issue #11. This was quilted using a wave panto.

This is called "Take a Hike" for someone very special. If she reads the blog before she gets it (I am mailing it Tuesday), then the surprise isn't quite the same but she will know it is done and on the way. Quilted with a loopy leaf in variegated thread.

Allietare has taken a back seat to these and am hoping February is just as productive.

Missed last week's report but then again it was just goose eggs. Cleaning up after the holidays and got the sewing room ready to go for a fresh start! 
I love that backings measure big usage.
This is the year of the UFO's and starting out gung ho!
First:

Saw this on Facebook about a year ago and worked out the pattern. Had limited fabrics to work with but I think the sweet girl that is going to get this will be thrilled!

Second:

Finally a train quilt for DH, Missouri Star's Jenny Sloan's Slice and Dice for layer cakes. So not my style but quick and easy and big enough for him.

Allietare Progress:

It was put on hold to finish these two but will be back at it this week.

There are 2 corners completed. Bonnie suggested working from each end and only having one long seam to do at the end. Sounds like a plan to me.

My border selections are:

I actually pulled my colors from this but not liking the binding so that will change.

It is almost kick-off so better get going, appetizers made and half-time chili ready so headed to the TV to bind another UFO while I watch. We usually get together with friends to watch but we voted today to all stay home. It looks beautiful out but the windchills are 30 below, so DH and I will cheer the Vikings on in complete comfort.
