No numbers change this week because I have not counted it out. The woman shown below was very hard on my stashbusting efforts. She had brought kits, bundles, rolls and patterns along. I did some serious damage. I have had a 30's obsession for almost 20 years and several weeks ago had pulled out my fabrics. I cut out 5 quilts and kitted them for this winter. A big sigh of relief, I was so over it.....and had bought a few Civil War fabrics to do this weekend. Was not in love with them. Apparently I was not looking at the right resources for them, I saw Becky's and was instantly back in obsession mode. I'm sticking to my story...it is all her fault. Not only did I buy but won a bag of her scraps as a door prize!!!
Becky Wright as the "Civil War Quilter". Becky put on her first Trunk Show for us on Friday night. Civil War stuff can sometimes be very serious but Becky made it so fun! She even shared the secret of wearing pantaloons and how women handled using the bathroom! Hilarious.
She has the most beautiful line of quilt patterns and they all have their story printed on the back of the pattern. Here are some of them....
AND THEN...... the antique ones, oh my, were they wonderful!
This one(Ocean Waves) was pieced by a young man that was horribly injured and during his recovery but you will have to get Becky to tell the whole story.
And this one has a wonderful story about a Grandma and Grandduaghter.
It does not end here. We participated in a workshop with Becky the next day. We had chosen Jacob's Cot quilt and yes, there is a wonderful story to go with it.
My sis-in-law! No wonder people think we are sisters...She spent some individual time with everyone
Here are some of the blocks made that day and proof that a good pattern does not have to be made in the fabric that the patternmaker chose.
There was lots more blocks made but I wanted to sew also so here is mine. Yes, I brought "Hazel" to sew on, I just love her.
We had a great time both days, raised lots of money with a silent auction and raffle on Friday and laughter, fellowship and quilting on Saturday. It does not get any better in the quilting world.
Don't forget to check out Becky at her blog, The Civil War Quilter
and the rest of the gang at Patchwork Times!
As Always,
Deb
What a wonderful presentation!! The quilts are beautiful. Labors of love!! Glad you enjoyed your retreat time!! Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteBecky was so interesting with her stories of how each quilt came about. I agree, her quilts were so beautiful. I even bought a kit which I never do.
DeleteWow! What a wonderful time. Becky sounds like a wonderful presenter and instructor. Will have to keep her in mind as a suggestion for our guild.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Oh Beth, she was so much fun! In retrospect, we should have chosen a more complicated pattern to use her skills to full advantage but we had a great time.
